VOTE!

It is a short message from me today. The elections are here. Exercise your right vote and take part in protecting our democratic legacy.

Early voting ends today, and Election Day is Tuesday, November 3rd. If you have not made it to the polls yet, be sure you do so on Tuesday, and take folks with you! If you have any questions still at this point, I suggest you check out this Texas AFL-CIO voting resource. You can check your registration, find your polling location and see which of your candidates have been endorsed as pro-union candidates.

It is also election season for Local 72-147. Nominations  for your officers, executive board members and delegates to the AFM Convention will be taking place during our General Membership meeting this Sunday at 6 pm at the Local 72-147 offices in Arlington. Click HERE for more information. We will be providing refreshments at the meeting.

Democracy is the cornerstone of our society and culture. As Americans, we claim a proud place in history through the establishment of our “government of the people, by the people, for the people.”

Peaceful protest is Democracy. Rule of law by the people is Democracy. Due process is Democracy. Each person making their voice heard is Democracy. Communication, disagreement and debate is Democracy. Looking out for our neighbor is Democracy. Voting is Democracy.

When we do so, we take agency for the world we inhabit, the country we love, and the Union that brings us together for change.
