Frances Blatt
Frances Aline Blatt passed away on November 20, 2022 from Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born on June 10, 1926 in Dallas to Aaron and Sarah Toplitz. In high school, she played for radio programs and with a country music band that performed in major Dallas hotels and toured to New Mexico where her all girl band would show up on horseback. Frances graduated from Forest Avenue High School in Dallas and went to Juilliard, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Music. After returning to Dallas, Frances became a violinist in the Dallas Symphony Orchestra for 25 years. She performed for the Dallas Summer Musicals as well as playing many freelance gigs. She taught violin privately and at schools. Frances particularly enjoyed annual trips to NYC to play the Mostly Mozart Festival. Her love of music carried her into significant volunteer leadership at Dallas Chamber music, the Dallas Symphony Guild and Temple Emanu-El. Frances was the matriarch of her family and was intensely loyal and giving to her friends. She traveled extensively, alone and with family. She was an art collector and avid gardener who either blessed or cursed her friends and family depending on how they felt about being inundated with okra and persimmons. Frances married J.D. Blatt (z’l) in 1950. She is survived by daughters Barbara Lowenstein and Sara Blatt and son-in-law David Lewis, and also grandchildren Jon and Joanna Lewis and Airen Lowenstein along with other precious family and friends. After her beloved husband’s death, she became the dear partner of Eugene Raboy (z’l) for 33 years. Burial services will be held at 10:00AM at Shearith Israel Memorial Park (4634 Dolphin Rd) and will be followed by an 11:30AM memorial service at Temple Emanu-El (8500 Hillcrest Rd). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dallas Chamber Music (3630 Harry Hines Blvd #15, Dallas, TX 75219) or the Dallas Symphony Orchestra (2301 Flora St., Dallas, TX 75201).
