I found Aaron Pino’s thorough article about auditions interesting and enlightening on many fronts. It is worth noting, however, that in the past some CBA’s including that of the Dallas Symphony, had clauses that gave anyone who was a Local 72-147 member in good standing the right to audition for any openings in the local jurisdiction where auditions were being held. Local players were able to audition at a local only audition or at the national audition itself.
Also, it was usually understood that if extra players or substitutes were needed, these players would come from Local 72-147 — as long as someone qualified was available. This practice has now often been abandoned with many excellent local players being excluded from the area’s best work.
Our meet and greet back in September was attended by long time members as well as new faces and students. It was a real pleasure to meet and hear the new faces. We really appreciate the Denton Arts Council partnering with us

On December 20 local musicians will be presenting an annual concert for people in our cities who experience homelessness. In addition to presenting musical entertainment they are raising funds to prepare Christmas packages for those in attendance

Annual membership dues become delinquent if they remain unpaid after January. Semi-annual membership dues become delinquent if they remain unpaid after January or July. A $5 tardy fee is assessed for each delinquent month in which membership dues remain unpaid.
Read moreIn the Summer of 2010 — 8 years ago — the Richardson Symphony Orchestra was placed on the AFM’s Unfair List after refusing to sit down with Local 72-147 and the Musicians of the orchestra to bargain a successor agreement. This happened after nearly twenty years of a productive relationship.
Now after eight years of the RSO having been placed on the AFM’s International Unfair List, it has been removed.
Local 72-147 reached agreement with the RSO after engaging in discussions with the organization’s Executive Director Laurie Garvie and Music Director Clay Couturiaux throughout the summer months to discuss terms for the company’s removal from the list.
