David Lindsey

David Lindsey, a gifted musician, dedicated educator, member of our Local, and beloved husband, father, and
grandfather, passed away on April 22, 2025 at the age of 86. Born on August 1, 1936, to Eugene
and Carmon Lindsey, David was their only child and brought immeasurable joy and pride to their
lives.
From an early age, David showed exceptional musical talent, beginning his journey with the
accordion at just eight years old. His passion for music would shape the course of his life,
leading him to earn a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Concert Accordion and Music Theory
from the University of Denver. He later completed his Doctorate of Philosophy in Music Theory
at North Texas State University, where he also served as a respected professor for over 27 years
(09/01/1979-03/31-2007).
David’s musical career was as diverse as it was distinguished. He served in the U.S. Army
Rangers and completed several tours with the 7th Army Symphony, famously reporting for duty
with his accordion in tow. A classically trained musician, David performed and composed music
for a wide array of ensembles, including violinist Jack Cannon’s string quartet with bass and
accordion, and a unique trio comprised of accordion, violin, and bass. Over the years, he had the
honor of accompanying some of the world’s most renowned artists, including Luciano Pavarotti
and Barbra Streisand.
On June 4, 2011, David married the love of his life, Joan Lindsey. Together, they shared a deep
and enduring bond. David is survived by his two children, Lorrie and Scott, and his cherished
grandson, Cody, who brought him great pride and joy.
David will be remembered for his profound contributions to music, his commitment to
education, and the warmth, wit, and wisdom he brought to every room he entered. His legacy
lives on through the many lives he touched and the music he so beautifully shared with the
world.
The family of David Lindsey fondly honors his lifelong love of music and his many devoted
years of service to the UNT College of Music. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be
