East Texas Symphony Ratifies New Three Year Agreement
On August 4, the Musicians of the East Texas Symphony Orchestra ratified a three-year agreement that runs from June 1, 2024 through May 31, 2027.
After negotiation sessions with the ETSOA had begun in late spring, with the previous collective bargaining agreement expiring on May 31, Musicians held talks with Management into the month of July ultimately reaching the agreement ratified in August.
What resulted was a progressive agreement which includes wage increases of 4% for each year of the contract respectively (12% over the term). In addition travel expense payments (mileage and hotel) were increased by more than 25%. Payments paid to all musicians for hotel expense increased from $70.00 to $95.00, and mileage payments rose from $120.00 to $144.00 (based on the IRS rate) for each concert block, beginning in the 2024-25 season
In addition, a core minimum complement was established with a set minimum number of core positions now set forth in the agreement. The season guarantee for most core positions was increased to 20 services for the subscription series, and some provisions allowing for a different allocation of services per concert block were bargained.
Also, a new article was added to the CBA outlining new and clarified procedures for efficient communications, extra musician hiring and seating, music preparation, and paid string bowing services and procedures; all with clarified timelines.
Many thanks to the ETSO Players’/Negotiation Committee representing the orchestra in the negotiations. The team consisted of Chris Chapin, Sharon Deuby, Barney McCollum, James McNair, Laura Ospina, Tami Peterson and James Sims; and Local 72-147 President Stewart Williams.
